Wild rice is a nutrient-rich grain with a higher protein content than most other whole grains. It is also an excellent source of essential vitamins and minerals, including magnesium, vitamin B6, iron, and potassium.
With its distinct nutty flavor and pleasant soft-to-firm texture, wild rice is incredibly versatile and can be used in a range of dishes such as salads, soups, pasta, and stuffing.
As a naturally gluten-free grain, wild rice serves as an ideal wheat flour substitute for those with gluten allergies or sensitivities.
Cooking Instructions:
1. Rinse 125g of wild rice thoroughly.
2. Place it in a large pan and add 450ml of boiling water.
3. Stir, return to the boil, cover, and simmer for 45–50 minutes until the grains have popped.
4. Remove from heat, keep the pan covered for an additional 5 minutes, then fluff the grains with a fork.
5. Optionally, stir in a knob of butter for added flavor.
